EXPLAINED: HOW TEAM INDIA'S FLIGHT TO MUMBAI HAD SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH ROHIT SHARMA AND VIRAT KOHLI

India are currently basking in the success of winning the T20 World Cup 2024 when they beat South Africa in the thrilling final and ended their 11-year-wait for an ICC trophy on a historic day at Barbados. The team first landed in Delhi on the early hours of the morning of July 4, and then has proceeded to go t Mumbai where they are currently on a humongous parade towards the Wankhede Stadium. The flight which Team India travelled in from Delhi to Mumbai has a special connection with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The Vistara flight that carried Team India fro Delhi to Mumbai had the code 'UK1845'. This was a combination of the jersey numbers of Virat Kohli (18) and Rohit Sharma (45) in the Indian team. In the flight, the team was greeted by the captain and the crew followed by a cake-cutting ceremony. Each player was presented with personalized handwritten cards, special baggage tags, and themed meals onboard in honor of their achievement.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Hence, it was a great gesture on part of the Vistara management to honour both of these modern-day greats.

How India Won T20 World Cup 2024 Final

India won the toss in the all-important final and elected to bat first. They got off to a horror start, as in just the second over of the game, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant departed in quick succession off the ball of Keshav Maharaj. Suryakumar Yadav also departed a few overs later for just 3 runs.

It was then Axar Patel and Virat Kohli who stayed put and managed to steady the ship with a partnership of 72 runs. Axar got out after scoring a brilliant 47 from 31 balls. After his departure it was Kohli who took the charge, as he finally came back to form and slammed 76 runs from 51 balls. Shivam Dube also score 27 runs from 16 balls, as India managed to score 176/7 in their 20 overs.

India got off to a good start as they got two early wickets of Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram. However, Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs got the Proteas back into the game, before Heinrich Klaasen slammed a 22-ball half-century to almost get the game in the favour of South Africa. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya got the Men in Blue back on track from the jaws of defeat. Pandya picked up 3 wickets, while Bumrah scalped 2.
