'HOPEFULLY...': WORLD CHAMPION JASPRIT BUMRAH ANSWERS BIG QUESTION OVER HIS RETIREMENT

Jasprit Bumrah is being hailed as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time following his magical performance in the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup that pulled India back into a game that was quickly slipping away from them. Needing 30 off 30, South Africa were in firm control at the Kensington Oval but Bumrah produced a special spell in the slog overs to put them under pressure and help India win seven runs.

The 30-year-old was not just phenomenal in the title clash but throughout the competition. Be it his 3/14 from four overs in the defense of a low total against Pakistan in the first round or 3/7 in against Afghanistan in Super 8 or 2/12 against England in the semi-final, he was knocking out the opponents with surreal consistency.

Bumrah, a fast bowler, has been an intrinsic part of Indian setup across formats. And there’s fear of a burnout or an unfortunate injury considering the workload of a fast bowler.

So should Bumrah give up T20Is and focus on the longer formats given he is a world cup winner now?

The champion bowler has no plans to call it quits.

“It’s (my retirement) is a long way away. I have just started. Hopefully, it is far away now,” Bumrah said during a ceremony held at Wankhede Stadium to celebrate Team India’s world cup triumph.

Bumrah was especially happy that his family – wife Sanjana Ganesan and son Angad – were present at the venue to watch him win the title.

“It was unreal. Usually, I am not the one who is at a loss of words, but seeing my son, the emotions that came in. I never cry after the game, but I started crying, and I cried two, three times,” Bumrah said.

Hailing Bumrah’s contribution, batting superstar Virat Kohli quipped that he’s ready to sign a petition to declare his teammate as the eighth wonder of the world.
