MITHALI RAJ'S EMOTIONAL NOTE FOR ROHIT, KOHLI AND JADEJA: CHAPTER CLOSES, LEGACY REMAINS

Former India women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj penned an emotional note for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja after the trio announced their retirement from T20I cricket. The senior India players announced right after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, India's first ICC trophy in Rohit Sharma's tenure. Raj took to Twitter to express her gratitude to the players.

India beat South Africa by 7 runs on Saturday, 29 June at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. India, put in a superb team effort to beat Aiden Markram's side who were looking in a strong position going into the last five overs of the game. India were down and out when Heinrich Klaasen was hitting the spinners left, right and centre in their chase of 177 runs. However, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah combined to pull off a superb back-end effort which helped India win the game by 7 runs.

Minutes after Virat Kohli hung up his boots from T20I cricket in the post match presentation, India captain Rohit Sharma announced his decision to retire from the shortest format of the game on Saturday, June 29. The two cricketers announced the end of their journey in T20Is after India won the T20 World Cup in Barbados, beating South Africa in a thrilling final. While Kohli called it quits after winning the Player of the Match award at the Kensington Oval, Rohit made it official while addressing the press after the victory.

"That was my last game as well. Honestly, I have enjoyed it since the time I started playing this format. There is no better time to say goodbye to this format. I have loved every moment of it. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted to do. win the Cup and say (goodbye," Rohit said even as the reporters in Barbados urged him to carry on playing the format.
