As the 37-year-old landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai after guiding Team India to a momentous victory, he got the best welcome of his life.

Thousands of fans chanting ‘Mumbai cha Raja Rohit Sharma (King of Mumbai Rohit Sharma)’ turned the atmosphere electric. It was a surreal moment for the Indian captain, who had missed out on an ODI World Cup trophy in 2023.

This deafening noise was enough to signify the unreal craze Rohit Sharma enjoys in his hometown.

As visuals of Rohit Sharma’s rousing reception started circulating on the internet, fans joined in the celebrations.

Not just the airport, Wankhede Stadium, the final destination for Team India’s open bus parade, also witnessed similar chants as thousands of fans flocked to the stadium to become a part of the historic celebration.

Team India will begin its open bus parade from Nariman Point and travel via the iconic Marine Drive to reach the Wankhede Stadium, covering approximately 1 km.

On paper, this distance might seem small but it could take hours to complete, with thousands of fans flooding the roads to get a glimpse of the newly-crowned world champions.

Rohit Sharma led by example throughout the tournament. His batting at the top of the order set the stage for other batters to express themselves.

Besides his fearless batting, Rohit’s brilliant captaincy also came to the fore as India defeated South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final to win its first ICC trophy in 11 years.
