India displayed a resilient performance to clinch victory over South Africa in the thrilling final of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Setting a target of 177, India's skipper Rohit Sharma’s early departure seemed to boost South Africa's morale. However, a determined Virat Kohli rose to the occasion with a stellar 76 off 59 balls. In response, South Africa fell short by 7 runs despite a valiant innings by Heinrich Klaasen. Player of the Match, Kohli's exceptional batting combined with Bumrah's impactful bowling sealed India's triumph, ending a long wait for the prestigious title.

David Miller speaks on losing the ICC T20 World Cup final to India

Expressing disappointment, David Miller described the T20 World Cup final loss to India as a challenging setback. Despite the pain, he remained confident in the resilience of the South African team to keep progressing. Making it to their first T20 World Cup final without the tag of "chokers," the Proteas suffered a defeat to India by seven runs in the ultimate showdown.

Before the final, the Proteas enjoyed a sensational run, ekeing out wins in the pressure situations to become favourites for the title.

South Africa had looked on course to a memorable win needing 30 runs in as many balls. However, Indian bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, fashioned a remarkable turnaround picking the key wicket of Heinrich Klaasen followed by Marco Jansen.

With Miller at the crease and 16 needed off the last over, the Proteas still remained hopeful.

But a spectacular catch by Suryakumar Yadav at the boundary ended Miller's innings while deflating hopes of a South African win.

It was the closest South Africa had come to winning a title, having made seven semifinal exits in ICC global events.
