SHAUN POLLOCK SHUTS DOWN NOISE AROUND SURYAKUMAR YADAV CATCH: BRILLIANT BIT OF SKILL

Legendary South Africa fast bowler Shaun Pollock said that Suryakumar Yadav's catch in the T20 World Cup 2024 final was legitimate. On Saturday, June 29, India won the mega event after beating the Proteas by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetwon, Barbados. With 16 runs needed off the last over, Suryakumar took an excellent juggling catch to dismiss David Miller.

Miller tried to hit a full toss off Hardik Pandya down the ground, but could not get proper timing. Suryakumar showed nerves of steel, judged the trajectory of the ball to perfection and completed the catch. There were doubts on whether Suryakumar's feet touched the boundary ropes, but the third umpire ruled the decision in favour of the fielding team.

Shaun Pollock gives his verdict

Pollock said that Suryakumar took a clean catch and lauded him for his efforts under pressure. "The catch was fine. The cushion had moved, but that's in the course of the game. It had nothing to do with Surya. He didn't stand on the cushion. Brilliant bit of skill,"Pollock said in an interview.

Later, Suryakumar also got the 'Best Fielder' medal from Jay Shah, the Honourary secretary of the BCCI. The tradition of the medal was started by fielding coach T Philip from the ODI World Cup on Indian soil last year.

"Thank you so much Dilip Sir for giving me this opportunity and collecting this medal from Jay sir,"Suryakumar said.

After batting first in the final, India scored 176 for the loss of 7 wickets on the back of Virat Kohli's 59-ball knock of 76. Axar Patel also played a vital knock before getting run out. Heinrich Klaasen scored a 23-ball fifty, but his efforts went in vain for South Africa. Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah held their nerves to take India home.
