'YOU ARE A LEADER, WELL DONE SKIPPER': BATTING COACH VIKRAM RATHOUR LAUDS ROHIT SHARMA'S LEADERSHIP

Rohit Sharma bid adieu to T20Is as he guided India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title. The Men in Blue defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Following the disappointing defeat at the hands of Australia in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final there was a sense of urgency this time around. The Men In Blue looked solid from the start of the tournament and they maintained their form till they lifted the title on the final day.

The Men In Blue ended a long 11-year wait for an ICC trophy as they last lifted the Champions Trophy back under MS Dhoni’s guidance in 2013. This is Rohit Sharma’s second ICC trophy as a player and his first as the captain of the Indian team.

Batting coach Vikram Rathour took to Instagram to dedicate a heartfelt post for Rohit Sharma. Hailing Rohit’s leadership credentials Rathour also congratulated the 37-year-old for inspiring others.

He posted, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and achieve more. You are a leader. well done skipper.”

The T20 World Cup also happened to be the last assignment of Rahul Dravid and his coaching staff. Gautam Gambhir is leading the line to be Rahul Dravid’s successor.

Rohit also announced his retirement from the T20Is but he confirmed he will continue to play ODI and Test cricket. “This was my last game as well,” Rohit said in the post match press conference.

"I've enjoyed it since the time I started playing this format. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. This is what I wanted - I wanted to win the cup."

India will now play a five match T20I series against Zimbabwe.
