BCCI ANNOUNCES 125 CRORE PRIZE MONEY FOR T20 WORLD CUP WINNERS: HOW MUCH MS DHONI'S MEN RECEIVED IN 2007?

BCCI announced a whopping Rs. 125 crore (Approximately $15 crore) prize money for the Indian team which conquered the T20 World Cup recently. Rohit Sharma’s men defeated South Africa by seven runs to lift the T20 World Cup title at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

BBCI Secretary Jay Shah took to X to announce that the cricket board will play an INR 125 crore bonus to the T20 World Cup-winning contingent. The victorious Men In Blue also received Rs. 20.41 crore prize money from ICC for lifting the trophy in the West Indies.

Jay Shah said, “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”

After India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, BCCI disbursed a total cash bonus of 39 crore to the winning team, the support staff and the selectors. As per a report in Sportstar, Each member of the squad received INR 2 crore each while the support staff and the selectors were paid INR 50 lakhs and INR 25 lakhs respectively.

But how much MS Dhoni and his men were paid for defeating Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup final? As per an ESPN Cricinfo report, BCCI awarded a cash bonus of $3 million to the Indian team. In addition to the bonus, Yuvraj Singh received a windfall of INR 1 crore for hitting six sixes to Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition in South Africa.

Each member of the support staff got richer by INR 15 lakhs. Apart from these incentives, also many respective states contributed heavily to reward the players. Indian captain Rohit Sharma who was also a part of that team and Ajit Agarkar received 10 lakhs each from the Maharashtra government.

India only lost to New Zealand in the Super Eight stage and went on to knock out both South Africa and Australia in the tournament.
