'TU BHI THODI TROPHY PAKAD LE': VIRAT KOHLI PULLS ROHIT SHARMA FOR THIS EPIC PICTURE WITH WORLD CUP TROPHY

A new chapter was added to Indian cricket’s rich history with Rohit Sharma’s Team India getting crowned as the T20 World Champions. The men in blue defeated South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling encounter to end the 11-year-long drought of ICC trophies. Once the victory was achieved, emotions were galore at the Kensington Oval. The members of the Indian cricket team had an emotional override. They had tears in their eyes while their hearts were filled with pride.

For Rohit Sharma, it was something that he was manifesting since taking charge as India’s all-format captain. The urge to win a title was doubled up after losing last year’s ODI World Cup at home. And as he achieved this ultimate goal, he said goodbye to the shortest format of the game.

But before Rohit announced it, Virat Kohli gave a shock to his fans, saying that it was his last T20I game and the last World Cup for India. Both stalwarts bowed out as the top two run-getters of the format. Rohit ended his T20I career as the highest scorer in the world with 4231 runs while Kohli is next to him with 4188 runs.

Witnessing Kohli and Rohit celebrate a World Cup victory was something that Indian cricket fans have waited for more than a decade. It was a special moment, not only for the players but for them as well. And to save the memories, the duo posed together with the trophy and the Indian tri-colour.

Speaking with Star Sports after the victory, Kohli said why he took a picture with Rohit.

“It was a special thing for him as well. His family was here, her daughter, Samaira was on her shoulders. He was in the end when we took the victory lap. So I asked him, ‘Tu bhi thodi trophy pakad le (You too hold the trophy),” Kohli told Star Sports.

“We should take a picture together because this journey has been very long. Me and him playing together for so many years and trying our level best to make sure that this happens to India. As you said, captain or leader, we have just worked for only one thing and this Indian cricket and that picture was a dedication to Indian cricket,” he added.

A day after India’s T20 World Cup triumph, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Sunday announced his retirement from T20 Internationals, joining his illustrious teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Having made his debut in T20Is against Sri Lanka back in 2009, he played 74 matches, scoring 515 runs and taking 54 wickets.
