'WHY DO YOU WANT TO CLIMB MOUNT EVEREST': RAHUL DRAVID COMES OUT AGAINST 'DO IT FOR DRAVID' CAMPAIGN

The 2024 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Sunday (June 29) will be an emotional occasion for the Men in Blue as it will be the final match for head coach Rahul Dravid in charge of the team.

Ahead of the start of the tournament, e confirmed that the mega event will be his last charge of the national team, as he will not renew his contract with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) while searching for a new coach.

Dravid has been at the helm of affairs for two and a half years, having taken charge in November 2021 after Ravi Shastri's tenure came to an end. In Dravid's tenure, India has yet to win an ICC trophy, having lost the semi-final of the 2022 T20 World Cup to England, the final of the 2023 World Test Championship, and the Cricket World Cup to Australia.

Virender Sehwag Wants Rohit Sharma-led India To Win T20 World Cup 2024 For Coach Rahul Dravid

With Dravid set to leave the role, there has been a clamor for the team to win the trophy to give him a fitting farewell and a 'Do It For Dravid' campaign that has also taken social media by storm. Among India's greatest-ever cricketers, Dravid never won an ICC trophy in his playing career either.

However, Dravid refuted any such talks and stated that this is against his beliefs and not something he wants to focus on or talk about.

"You know, I don't really believe in this 'Do it for somebody! I love that quote about somebody asking somebody else, 'Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?' and he says 'I want to climb Mount Everest because it's there! I want to win this World Cup because it's there. It's not for anyone, it's not for anybody, it's just there to win. I just want to play good cricket and yeah, doing it for someone is totally against who I am as a person and what I believe in so I don't want to talk about it and discuss it," said Dravid on Star Sports.
