YASHASVI JAISWAL IN, VIRAT KOHLI OUT; SHUMAN GILL CAPTAIN: INDIA'S LIKELY XI FOR 1ST T20I VS ZIMBABWE

India got a monkey off the back and ended their long wait for the ICC trophy as they defeated South Africa to win the T20 World Cup. The win marked the end of an era as veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from T20I cricket. It will now be up to the young brigade to maintain India's dominance in world cricket in the shortest format of the game. India's next T20I assignment is the Zimbabwe tour where the team will play a five-match T20I series. The series will get underway on July 6 in Harare.

The BCCI announced a new look India squad for the series, with Shubman Gill handed the leadership of the team. Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to break through the T20 World Cup squad, however, they did not get an opportunity to play for the team. The Zimbabwe series will give them a much-deserved break in the playing XI. Also, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh and Riyan Parag, who were unlucky to miss out on T20 World Cup squad despite doing well in the IPL will also get an opportunity in the series.

India's playing XI for the first T20I could see Shubman Gill opening with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhishek Sharma had a great run in the IPL but they are unlikely to get a chance in the first two games at least. Sanju Samson will bag the No.3 slot and will be followed by Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh. Washington Sundar is likely to serve as the specialist all-rounder. Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed should be the pace trio, with Ravi Bishnoi as the spinner.
