'DHONI BHAI ITNE SHAANDAAR PLAYER...FELT GOOD THAT HE APPRECIATED US': ROHIT SHARMA ON MS DHONI'S PRAISE FOR INDIA AFTER WINNING 2024 T20 WORLD CUP

Real recognises real. And so did Captain Cool MS Dhoni himself, who showered praise on the current Indian cricket team after their triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados on Saturday, where they defeated South Africa to claim their first ICC trophy since 2013.

India has finally clinched a T20 World Cup trophy after their initial success in the inaugural edition of the tournament all the way back in 2007, under the leadership of one man: Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni had been the last Indian skipper to lead the team to international success, claiming both the T20 and ODI World Cups for India in 2007 and 2011 respectively.

And it was finally Rohit Sharma who brought glory back to India, prompting the retired legend to share his excitement and pride for witnessing the same.

“WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was up, well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did,” Dhoni wrote on Instagram.

“From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home. CONGRATULATIONS. arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift,” he added.

When asked about what it meant for the current Indian skipper to hear the laurels from his previous skipper Dhoni himself, Rohit shared his excitement and elation for the same, praising the former captain for his contribution to Indian cricket.

“Dhoni was a fabulous player. He did a lot for us and the country. I felt good that he appreciated us after our victory,” Rohit stated to press after his win against South Africa.

India were involved in a thriller of a match against the mighty Proteas, both undefeated teams in the tournament, as the Virat Kohli-anchored batting order put up a historic total of 176 in their outing, the highest total set in an ICC T20 World Cup Final.

Kohli, who had been struggling in the tournament with the bat so far, led the way with a clinical and calculated 76 runs off 59 balls, helping his side steer clear of imminent danger and to steady the ship for the eventual mammoth total.

After that, it was time for India’s finest with the ball to shine. And shine they did, when the moment called for it, as the likes of Hardik Pandya and the ever-imminent Jasprit Bumrah delivered a masterclass in death bowling to seal a nail-biting 7-run win over the Proteas, to clinch the coveted T20 WC trophy.
